2 men standing with award

The Greenon Local School District is proud to announce that it has received the Auditor of State Award for excellence in financial reporting. The award, issued by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, recognizes local governments and school districts that meet the highest standards of financial accountability.

To qualify for this recognition, the district met rigorous criteria established by the Auditor of State’s Office. These include filing timely financial reports through the Hinkle System on a GAAP accounting basis and receiving an audit report free of findings for recovery, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, or any other financial concerns. The district’s management letter also contained no comments related to ethics violations, questioned costs, bank reconciliation issues, or public records concerns.

“This award reflects a district-wide commitment to transparency, accuracy, and responsible stewardship of public funds,” said Garth Whitaker, Treasurer/CFO of Greenon Local School District. “It is the result of collaborative efforts from our Treasurer’s Office to staff, advisors, and coaches across the district.”

Special recognition goes to the following individuals whose daily work and attention to detail make this achievement possible:

  • Garth Whitaker: Treasurer/CFO

  • Amy Johnson: Assistant to the Treasurer and Payroll Specialist

  • Leslie Renner: Accounts Payable Specialist

  • Susan Smith: K–12 Bookkeeper

Their dedication, along with the support of coaches, advisors, and district staff, played a crucial role in maintaining strong financial practices and earning this prestigious award.

Greenon Local School District remains committed to upholding these standards and serving the community with integrity and accountability.
