Curriculum
Elementary programs in the Greenon Local School District offer a wide range of experiences for our Kindergarten through 6th grade students. Our teachers at Greenon Elementary use formative instructional practices to meet the needs of all learners.
In Language Arts, our teachers use research-based programs to provide instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing to create a strong literacy foundation for all students. More than 50 percent of student reading materials are non-fiction, allowing teachers to link Social Studies and Science lessons to the Language Arts program and provide instruction in Science and Social Studies using a variety of hands-on activities and projects. Elementary Mathematics programs are standards-based and provide opportunities for students to connect mathematics to the real world. Teachers incorporate technology into their instruction using interactive whiteboards, iPads, and online software. All Kindergarten through 6th Grade students receive weekly computer-aided instruction and assessment in Math and Reading. Our elementary programs provide excellent 21st-century educational experiences for all children.
